The Quest for Free Alternatives to Microsoft Office Suite


Looking for free alternative to Microsoft Office?  In search for the free counterpart of the popular office suite from Microsoft, I listed several free software that can be used in your windows computer.   These softwares  mostly compatible to MS office format of word, excel and powerpoint.  There will be disadvantages of each freeware compared to the MS office but there's no harm in trying, right?  Before you click the 'read more' button, try to make a list of free alternatives that you can think of and then let's see if it will be on my list. Web-based or cloud-based alternatives.  Must use your browser and have an internet connection.

Update 1:  The latest Lotus Symphony version will probably the last version based on IBM's own code.  IBM will start with Apache on OpenOffice.org by contributing codes to the main version.  You can read more details here.

Update 2:  Microsoft also had a web-based application to its popular Office suite.  Before you can use the web-based apps, you will need a Windows live ID which you can get for free.  Just click the banner below to go the MS Office web apps.
